Catholic business people from the dioceses of Myitkyina, Banmaw and Lashio have attended a program in east-central Myanmar to gain spiritual nourishment and share work experiences.
“We can control our business greed by focusing on religious teachings and deep faith in God,” said Theresa Nu from Myitkyina diocese.
Nu, a rubber plantation owner, said the gathering helps to deepen faith life and learn what others are doing through a sharing of work experiences.
She was part of the business people’s annual meeting held in Lashio Nov. 17-21 and attended by the bishops of Lashio and Myitkyina and 282 other Catholics.
“We aim to establish unity, develop businesses and deepen our faith life,” said John Tu Mai, a jade business owner.
Tu Mai, in-charge of a business people group, said they organized the association of ‘Kachin ethnic business people’ with an aim of helping the less-fortunate and needy people.
Michael Gam Aung, a participant, said he intends to share experiences from the program with his local colleagues.
Topics about work and prayer life, Sacraments, family life and sharing of personal faith life and work experiences were discussed.
Archbishop Paul Zinghtung Grawng of Mandalay started the program in 1997 when he was Bishop of Myitkyina.
